Colorful watercolor on paper of a ceramic figure with copper pot and summer fruit, measuring 6 1/2" by 5 7/8" (13" by 12 3/4" as framed), likely the work of noted American artist FREDERIC GRANT (1886-1959). The work is apparently unsigned, but, on the original framing paper appears in a modern hand "BY FREDERICK GRANT"; originally there was also an old framer's sticker from Chicago but it has apparently dropped off since I purchased this. See the askart listing, and the images thereon which show a still life bearing a strong resemblance. In the auction records, many works of the artist are listed as unsigned. Grant was Illinois born and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago with John Vanderpoel, and, later, in Venice with William Merritt Chase, who proclaimed him a fine talent. Noted as a colorist, Grant's works appear at auction in the East, Midwest, and California, where he spent the final years of his life. This little painting was found in Connecticut.
