PHILIP KAPPEL (1901-1981) Connecticut listed art colonial house etching print

Etching on paper, 13" by 16" sheet, 9 1/4" by 12" image area, signed in pencil at lower right "PHILIP KAPPEL", and signed in the plate and dated 47. This is a fine etching by a well regarded artist most associated with Connecticut, where he was born and where he died. Kappel's work includes a wide variety of subjects in painting and the graphic arts. It appears that he traveled in the Caribbean and Mexico, but derived most of his subject matter from the New England area. He worked in Maine and in the Gloucester/Cape Ann area. Many, if not most, important East Coast museums have examples of his work. This print is in excellent condition though it has apparently never been professionally framed with mat, etc. The present frame is inexpensive and worn.
