MARTIN MONDRUS (1925-) California modernist painter chalk figure drawing on paper

Female nude figure executed in white chalk on black paper, 25" by 18 3/4", signed at lower right "Mondrus", unframed. The artist is associated with California, having been a familiar figure in the Los Angeles/Pasadena art scene for many years. He is still active as a teacher and juror of art competitions. Mondrus is Professor of Art Emeritus at Glendale Community College. His oeuvre includes oils, prints, drawings, and fresco. In 2003, an oil, "Overpass at Venice Boulevard", brought $14,000 at John Moran auction in Pasadena against a $9-12,000 estimate. The present drawing has traveled a while without benefit of glass, so has acquired a few minor scuffs and in upper left corner, wrinkles. It was glued in the corners to the cheap white board, so is not laid down, but is affixed to a degree. Proper framing and matting will result in a perfectly presentable, skillfully executed drawing of a nude woman. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
