Original hand colored 1814 map of Canada "British Dominions in North America"

Early 19th century copper engraving map of North America, focusing on present day Canada, the map titled "British Dominions in North America", drawn by J. Russell, and published by Nutthall, Fisher, Dixon in Liverpool, England in the year 1814. The map, in pleasing contemporary framing, shows a lot of information with picturesque details such as "Pawnee Villages" and "Supposd. Str. of Juan de Fuca". On the west coast of present day Canada, in British Columbia, we are introduced to "New Georgia", New Norfolk", and "New Cornwall". Keep in mind that the publishing date is only ten years after Lewis and Clark traveled overland to the mouth of the Columbia River---the Northwest being then a mysterious region of thick wet forests, largely unexplored save for the immediate coast. The hand coloring is very attractive and the map overall is in good condition, with some foxing and browning typical of a piece of paper that is 200 years old. Size inside the innermost mat is " by " (" by " framed). Allow for reflections in some images.
