Oil on gray academy board painting, " by ", " by " in the rather battered old framing, unsigned, probably executed in the latter years of the nineteenth century in New England. The artist created a comforting scene with a folk art feel, the handling of the trees and structure a bit stiff. Most likely this will need a new frame. There is a roughly circular dark area as seen at lower left, about 1" in diameter, that has been abraded. Otherwise the painting just sports the grime of over 100 years.
