Appearing as a watercolor, this is actually a screenprint, by the American artist WILLIAM DEAN FAUSETT (1913-1998). Measurements are 17" by 23" inside the old mat and 24" by 30" overall. Fausett was born in Utah but came to the east and is best known in Vermont, the state with which he is most closely associated. He worked in many media, including murals and fresco, painting, watercolor, and graphic art. The pupil of Kimon Nicolaides, Fausett attended the Art Students League in New York and the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center. Today his works are found in the collections of major eastern museums. Fausett was known as a portraitist of the famous, including Ronald Reagan, and also as an interpreter of Vermont's idyllic landscapes. This print has been abused and is in seriously compromised condition, with digs in the paper in the sky, mostly, showing as white areas. These are losses. The mat is an overmat, and the print is laid down to the backing. If the topmost portion were matted or cut out, the remaining portion would have decorative value.
