JOSEPH FARINGTON (1747-1821) **PAIR** fine aquatint engravings of English landscape scenery nicely framed

PAIR of fine engraved prints, 9 1/4" by 13" inside the innermost mat, and 20 1/2" by 26" as framed in attractive quality burl wood, one titled "Windsor and Eaton", the other "Carfax and Abingdon", created by the well-known late 18th century topographical artist and diarist JOSEPH FARINGTON (1747-1821). These are quality prints ready for display in any traditional interior, with fine detail and subtle coloring complemented by the rich brown burl and fine matting. Farington painted in oil and watercolor, and he engraved large folios of popular English landscape scenery. At a young age, he was studying with the great painter Richard Wilson, and by 1769 Farington was a member of the Royal Academy. He assisted with exhibitions of the works of Gainsborough, Hogarth, and Wilson, and became known as a diarist late in life. These diaries containing observations of life in the art community of the period are now important chronicles of an age long past. Farington made two trips to the European mainland, with Benjamin West, John Hoppner, and Johann Fuseli. Allow for a few reflections in some of the images. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
