Offered together as a group are THREE pencil signed etchings of abstract patterns, by the well-known California modernist artist WESLEY JOHNSON (1934-). Johnson was born near Santa Barbara. He studied with Andre L'Hote in Paris. Sometimes called an abstract expressionist, Johnson developed his own style. He is a painter and is also known for his murals and mosaics. The artist's works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. These three works are unframed. The smallest one measures 4 1/4" by 4 1/4"; the others are each 5 3/4" by 8 1/4". All are in less than perfect condition as they were found in a portfolio where they were subjected to handling. One or two have pin holes in the margins, and all are soiled there, as shown in the images. The soil and generalized handling wear is limited to the margins, so, if they were properly framed and matted, most if not all of the condition issues would be hidden.
