EDGARDO "EDDIE" SARMIENTO (1940-) Filipino art original early 1966 painting of Manila street scene in the Philippines
Oil on canvas painting of a scene in old Manila, Philippines, 24" by 36" (25 1/2" by 37" as framed), created in 1966 when the artist was only in his mid twenties, by EDDIE SARMIENTO (1940-), a familiar and popular painter in the islands for decades now. Sarmiento obtained an art degree by 1961, and by 1963 had opened his own gallery. Over time his subject matter has remained traditional........urban and rural scenes of the Philippines, painted in an impressionist style. Images of more recent works appear to show that his style has become a bit less impressionistic than is seen in this early example. Note the use of bare unpainted canvas as a technique of the artist. Sarmiento paintings are in the hands of collectors and corporate owners in the Philippines and abroad. Beginning in 1990 Sarmiento forged a relationship which resulted in his paintings being exported more actively. This 1966 painting is in very good condition with just a small bit of soiling here and there, consistent with age. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
