Oil on canvas laid on board painting of small boats on a tree lined lake or river, buildings beyond, 9 1/2" by 11 1/4" in a contemporary simple frame 1 1/2" wide on a side, signed at lower right "C. Brockelmann" and dated there '13. This is a lovely, attractive, clean, pleasing work, ready for the wall despite being a century old, by the Austrian artist CAMILLO (CARL) BROCKELMANN (1883-1963). The artist seems to be rather obscure, even though listed; little biographical information is available, and I see only a handful of auction records (a larger bedroom scene brought nearly $5,000 at Sotheby's in the mid 1980's). He was born in Hamburg and studied art in Vienna. Still life, landscapes and portraits by his hand are known. Obviously Brockelmann was an artist of talent. The pinkish glow suffusing this scene, the harmonious colors, and handling of the reflections are the work of a master painter. Condition is excellent. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
