GUY MACCOY (1904-1981) pencil signed modern abstract serigraph by noted California graphic artist

This is an attractive, sleekly modern print, from standpoint of both design and the subdued brown and black and tan color, pencil signed at bottom right by a California artist who is credited with the birth of serigraphy, GUY MACCOY (1904-1981). Measuring 20 1/4" by 26" inside the flimsy old mat, the print maintains margins of two to three inches. Former owners or framers used tape to affix the mat on top of the margins, I think twice on each side; I believe it can be safely removed, but I do not want to do it. Maccoy was born in Kansas and while young studied in Kansas City, Colorado Springs, and eventually New York, though today he is most associated with California, where he came later in life. Although he was a painter and artist who excelled at many mediums, he is actually best known for his innovations in graphic art, notably as the "inventor" of serigraphy, more commonly known as silkscreen.
