ROBERT BROOKS (1922-1992) original watercolor painting of Cape Cod harborside buildings by listed Massachusetts artist

Watercolor on paper painting of weathered buildings and small boats and docks on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, 10" by 12 1/4" (18" by 20" as nicely framed), signed at lower right by the listed Cape Cod artist ROBERT BROOKS (1922-1992). This is a rather typical work by Brooks, who painted in oil and watercolor in coastal New England for many decades. He was born in Fall River, Massachusetts, and educated at the Swain School of Design in nearby New Bedford and at the Vesper George School of Art in Boston. By the 1960's he was already well known on the Cape, and he created murals in Provincetown and for the American Legion in Yarmouth as well as for a synagogue in Hyannis. In 1976 the Cape Cod Art Association held a one man show for Brooks. By this time he had an established gallery in Hyannis where no doubt he sold many works to summer visitors. Reproductions have been made of Brooks' works. Condition of this example is excellent. Note that photos were taken through non-glare glass, which diminishes sharpness of the images.
