After J. F. HERRING (1795-1865) set of FOUR aquatint sporting art equestrian prints with hand coloring, celebrity provenance

Offered together are **FOUR** aquatint prints (23" by 27" as identically framed) after original paintings by the great English 19th century horse portrait artist, JOHN FREDERICK HERRING SENIOR (1795-1865). These are classic works of the classic age of equestrian printmaking. The artist's name is quite familiar to collectors: Herring's original sporting subject paintings have exceeded two million dollars at auction. I acquired the four prints directly from a landmark estate sale held at the longtime Beverly Hills home of famed Hollywood actor Glenn Ford and his wife Eleanor Powell. Certificates attesting to the celebrity provenance are available upon request from Ford's son, Peter. Hanging on the wall over the course of many years of parties and gatherings, the prints were probably witness to a lot of Hollywood royalty and their fascinating conversations. Two of the prints are in good or very good condition, while the other two are in fair to poor condition. All are without glass, in mid twentieth century frames with cream linen mats. Because they were without glass, they have been exposed to whatever it is that prints are exposed to when not protected. One, "Tarrare" (published circa 1826), has serious foxing and drips throughout; one, "Birmingham" (published 1831), exhibits significant browning and discoloration primarily in the margins; "Frederick" (published 1829) and "Mundie" (published circa 1835) are in presentable condition with modest age browning. All four prints show beautiful hand coloring. The prints were published by the artist in conjunction with S. & J. Fuller in London in the late 1820's and early 1830's. Engraving was by R. G. Reeve on three of them, and Charles Hunt engraved "Mundie" for publication. More photos upon request. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER ARTWORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
