Oil on canvas, 16 1/2" by 28 1/2" (20" by 32" framed), the scene a Mediterranean California style courtyard complete with fountain pond, palms and other vegetation, signed at lower left by the artist, one Daisy Dean Lucas, and dated there 1938. A google search shows an interesting tidbit concerning a woman by that name in Kern County, California, estranged from her apparently wealthy husband and attempting to sue him in the year 1937. Other than this I don't see a lot of information on the (presumed) artist. We are left to speculate: was she perhaps a woman of means who painted in her leisure time? The painting is in good condition considering its age, with just a slight bit of craquelure of the canvas at right. The frame, probably the original, shows some light to moderate wear.
