CARL RINGIUS (1879-1950) American impressionist art painting of sunset over coastal village
Oil on canvas painting, unframed, 10" by 8", the subject a coastal village (perhaps, Gloucester, Massachusetts) as viewed at day's end, a small skiff with two figures racing home in the bay or estuary in the fading daylight. The work is by the listed Swedish-American artist CARL RINGIUS (1879-1950). Ringius, sometimes confused with Carl Rungius, the major painter of western landscape and wildlife, was born in Sweden and arrived in America by 1902, where he took up residence in Hartford, Connecticut. Ringius went on to teach at the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, and became a member of the Salmagundi Club, New Haven Paint and Clay Club, and the North Shore Art Association of Gloucester, Massachusetts. Ringius was a masterful impressionist. I recently sold a painting of the harbor at Gloucester, executed in the tradition of impressionism. This painting is dirty and much in need of a professional cleaning, at which time a few tiny paint losses can be addressed. Thus cleaned and framed perhaps in gold, this atmospheric little gem will be returned to its former glory. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
