This is an early 18th century copper engraving map with hand coloring, titled "Landgraviatus Hassiae Inferioris nova Tabula, in qua praecique Ditiones Hasso-Casselense et Comitatus Waldeck cum insertis et vicinis alioru Statuum Praefecturis", by the noted cartographer Johann Baptist Homann. The area of Hessen in central Germany is depicted in fine geographical detail, and two cartouches include a hunting scene and putti holding up the "title". The map, measuring 18 3/4" by 22 1/2" (21 1/2" by 25" framed) is in presentable condition. There is a center fold which has some discoloration along it in the lower portion, and, also, the map is laid on a board. Over time some of the map has separated from that board, ballooning out, which accounts for the portion that seems to be coming out of the frame at center left. There is no glass.
