RICHARD DEY DE RIBCOWSKY (1880-1936) California art large oil on canvas mountain landscape painting
Large oil on canvas, 30" by 40", unframed, signed at lower left by the artist and dated there "30", the subject a snowy, rugged mountain range with autumnal colors and evergreens, a small lake in the middle ground. The artist, RICHARD DEY DE RIBCOWSKY (1880-1936) was a prolific painter, and a well traveled one, at that. For his time he was truly an adventurous traveler. Born in Bulgaria, he was in Paris by age 13, and Florence and St. Petersburg after that. By 1904 De Ribcowsky found himself in South America, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and by 1910 he was in the United States; and by 1920, in California. The artist painted landscapes, florals, marine sunsets (perhaps his most characteristic works), Venice, and the Grand Canyon of Arizona, as well as Texas. He employed a lot of color in his paintings. Often they are marked by large craquelure but this example escaped that fate, though it has unfortunately sustained a 10" tear in the canvas at right center, and there's a small area of scattered paint loss immediately adjacent to that. I imagine the cost to restore that tear professionally would run in the $300/400 range. Framed and restored, this painting will bring its new owner a lot of pleasure. See the net for more examples of De Ribcowsky's colorful paintings. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS OF ART NOW IN MY SHOP.
