ONE OF THREE WORKS BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP, this is a screen print on heavy white paper, (27 1/2" by 20", unframed, signed at lower right "SHIRE" and dated there 1989, numbered 195/200 at lower left, and titled at lower center "SURF BOARD TIKI"), by the noted contemporary sculptor, ceramicist, designer and painter PETER SHIRE (1947-). This work's bright primary colors and airy, pop art feel evokes his well known work for the posters promoting the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The gray lines are composed of silver glitter, adding a special twist. Shire became known on the art scene in the late 1970's with his now famous teapot sculptures, which attracted the attention of Memphis figure Ettore Sottsass. Shire was invited to Italy, to meet with industrial designers and craftspeople who introduced him to new media and techniques. Shire continues to create works of art, including public art. The median strip in West Hollywood is host to large and colorful sculpture creations by the artist, and his works are displayed at numerous other locations in Los Angeles and especially Echo Park, where the artist lives and maintains a studio. Works sell at modern auctions in Europe and America and are included in prestigious museums, including the Victoria and Albert in London. See the net for more information on Shire. Condition is generally excellent save for a crease in upper right corner and a tiny drop of foreign matter at lower right, neither fault seriously degrading the overall presentation. The deckled edge is naturally irregular so edge indentations are not losses. Item ID: JB02050
