In the Hudson River tradition is this oil on board, 20" by 28" (24" by 32" framed), signed at lower right "Hempen", the subject a small river in a late autumnal forest. I'd guess the age as circa 1930 give or take ten years. It is a work typical of its time, executed by a painter who worked rapidly. The painting is quite heavily bowed from old moisture and the bowing, added to someone in the past trying to force it into the frame, has caused a horizontal board pressure crack in the upper right center of about 7", the last inch showing as a loss. I think the frame is pretty much worn out so a buyer would want to reframe and tuck this carefully into that new frame. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
