This is an example of some of the scarce work of one of California's best known mid 20th century illustrators, EARL CORDREY. While he studied art and worked in New York, where his paintings are today auctioned by the likes of Illustration House, the artist is now most associated with California and Mexico. This watercolor and gouache painting measures 17" by 12" and is executed on artist board. It appears to show a view in downtown Palm Springs, in about the year 1965, judging from the hair and clothing styles. The artist studied with Sam Hyde Harris briefly and for years contributed illustration art to various national publications. See the net for more on the artist. Condition is excellent; colors are very fresh and there is no discoloration or water damage. All in all this is an amusing scene that will definitely brighten a collector's day. A fine example of work from the California watercolor school, and just the right piece for your "retro" mid century look. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PAINTINGS/PRINTS IN MY SHOP.
