F. DOUGLAS GREENBOWE (1921-1997) American impressionist 1949 watercolor painting of a fisherman and his catch
This work is by a talented hand, listed artist F. DOUGLAS GREENBOWE (1921-1997). Greenbowe was a New Jersey-born artist who studied in New York at the Art Students League under Frank DuMond The painter served in the South Pacific and depicted aerial battles. It was during that period that his talent came to the attention of Eleanor Roosevelt, who honored him. By 1953 was a mrmber of the American Watercolor Society, and he settled in Arizona. The work reminds of Andrew Wyeth or Winslow Homer in its strength and confidence, in how the figure is outlined against the horizon, in the handling of the clouds, and so forth. Condition of the art itself is excellent though the mat is damp and mold-stained. Measurements are 11" by 15" (18" by 22" as framed). More research might reveal more on the talented and under appreciated artist. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
