19th century English colored engraving of hunting scene with hounds and horsemen after HENRY ALKEN
Nineteenth century English hunting scene after the noted English artist who specialized in equestrian, racing, coaching and hunting scenes HENRY ALKEN (1785-1851). Alken's oil paintings sell for large sums at auction, and his prints are popular with interior decorators seeking that traditional look through sporting art. According to the fine print at bottom center this engraving was printed in the the year 1838 in London. Alken, himself a huntsman, is the best known of a family of prominent English painters. The dimensions are 11 3/4" by 14" (17" by 19" as framed). The paper is browned evenly with age. There are some white spots in the lower right margin. The mat is water stained and should be replaced, and there are some chipping losses to the narrow frame. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates. SEE HUNDREDS OF OTHER WORKS NOW IN MY SHOP.
