HAITIAN ART colorful classic Cap Haitien naive school painting signed Charles Francois

This is a colorful "primitive" work of the Haitian painters who worked in and around the northern city of Cap Haitien, in the style of the Obin family of painters. Signed at lower right "Ch. Francois/Cap Haitien, this oil on masonite, measuring 16" by 20" (24" by 28" as framed), shows small village of thatched roof houses, three women with machete and loads on their heads standing near a small stream with a donkey refreshing himself. The title at bottom reads "Une petite riviere situee de quelques pas de l'Acul-du-Nord", which translates roughly as "a little river situated a short distance from l'Acul-du-Nord". I don't see a listing by this name but I would imagine the work was painted sometime during the 1970's or 1980's. The artist obviously was familiar with the painting style of the well known Obin family of the region.....Seneque Obin, Claude Obin, Philippe Obin and others. The red signature within the box at lower right is also typical of that style. Condition is excellent and this naive work is ready for display. Shipping wizard figures are guesstimates.
