This is an example of the large chromolithograph made after the famous painting by Thomas Moran, for the Santa Fe Railroad. The work measures 25" by 34" and the gold frame is 4 1/2" on a side. Most interestingly, this example is in excellent condition, as most examples (including another in my shop currently) are scratched, water stained, or sun-faded. This example has evidently been behind glass for a long time, which has no doubt contributed to its state of preservation. There are a few minor flaws, (email me for details) but overall this print is well above average. Top notch examples have brought to the $6,000 area at auction. Note the plaque, possibly the original one, describing the piece and the artist. See the net for much more information on Thomas Moran, one of America's most important artists late in the 19th century and early in the 20th. Some of his paintings of the West and Southwest have exceeded 3 million dollars at auction. This is an impressive work, which will enhance any home or office.
