WALTER WALLER CAFFYN (1845-1898) listed English artist bucolic painting pond with swans
Oil on canvas scene of two white swans in a small lake or pond in a rural area, 24" by 16" and 2 1/2" wide newer frame, signed "W W Caffyn" at lower right and dated there "96". This is a work by a noted British artist who exhibited at the Royal Academy his paintings of rural scenes in Sussex, Kent and Yorkshire. His (mostly large) major works have exceeded $20,000 at auction in London. This painting is in excellent condition, with light craquelure. A cleaning might be beneficial, as a yellowish tone to the sky could be soiling or smoke. It has apparently been relined as the back is white heavy paper with some tape on it (see images).
