Oil on canvas, 22" by 28", unframed, signed at lower left "G.MALLON" and again on the reverse, and titled "ON LIGHTHOUSE AVE. MONTEREY" on the stretcher. Although likely executed in the 1970's or 1980's, this is a somewhat nostalgic work, harking back to earlier days, showing a Victorian house surrounded by cast iron fencing, the seagulls circling. The artist, GRACE ELIZABETH MALLON (1911-1997) is listed in Hughes dictionary of California artists. Born in New Jersey, she was in Hollywood by her 20's, and was soon studying under California masters Ralph Holmes, Phil Paradise, and Millard Sheets. Later in life she painted for the movie studios and in the art departments of Disney, Universal, and Hanna-Barbera. Mallon exhibited at he De Young Museum in San Francisco and at the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939. She retired from the studios in 1973. This painting is in excellent condition and needs only a frame. Note that photos are a bit reddish/purplish.....actual painting not like that. .
