A fine and unusual hand-blown Blenko vase. This pre-design era piece is a W491 "Heavy Swedish Type" vase, designed by Carl Erickson during his tenure at Blenko.
The Marine Crystal is a fine, light green color. The form is cupped form with reeded or feathered flanged handles on the sides. The vase is listed in a known 1948 Blenko catalog but marked "Discontinued". It is not listed in the 1949 catalog, indicating that the production period was brief.
Size: 11.5" tall, x" across and y" in diameter.
Condition: some wear to the exterior at the shoulder, wear to the foot rim, otherwise fine.
Received wisdom is that Blenko pieces always have rough pontils, but my experience is that early, large and important, pre-designer pieces often have deep-dish polished pontils. By way of example, the Blenko punch set we have listed has identical polished pontils on the bowl and liner.
