Here's an unusual piece of early Blenko glass. It's a large, low flared centerpiece or fruit bowl. It's Blenko number 3744, produced during the pre-designer era. It's in Ruby, which was produced from 1935 to 1942, which means this piece dates to between 1937 and 1942.
It's a large, beautiful, hand-formed bowl, with a handsome, classic shape. In my experience, Ruby is about the hardest Blenko color to find.
Size: 13.5" in diameter, 3" tall and 3.675" at the foot.
Condition: light wear to the interior, moderate wear to the foot ring.
Interestingly, this bowl has a deep, polished pontil in the center of the bottom. The rule of thumb is that Blenko always leaves their pontils rough, but that wasn't true in the 1930s, when this piece was made. We've seen a number of early, high-quality pieces of Blenko which have their pontils ground and polished out in exactly this manner (the punch set we have listed has ground pontils on both the bowl and liner).
