Wedgwood Queens Ware University of Pennsylvania Bicentennial Plates - Set of 12
Such is the case with the Penn plates. The blanks are specially made, with a laurel border in relief, the school seal and a profile portrait of Benjamin Franklin. The twelve images are printed in red and were designed by alumni of the school. They are identified on the back as to artist and scene. The views are: (1) Class of 1893 Gateway, (2) College Hall Portico, (3) The Dormitory Steps, (4) The Engineering Steps, (5) Evans Institute Portal, (6) Forward Pass Franklin Field, (7) Irvine Auditorium Spire, (8) Law School Portal, (9) Medical Laboratory Entrance, (10) The Museum Porch, (11) Veterinary Archway, and (12) Young Franklin
Size: 10.375" in diameter.
Condition: all are crazed, which is common for Queensware made before WWII. There's a 0.25" glaze chip on foot ring on the back of one of the plates, otherwise they're fine.
Mark: impressed Wedgwood marks, printed Wedgwood marks and captions. Dated 1940.
