Rosenthal Studio Line Zsofia Kanyak Spun Glass Bowl

A striking piece of Modern glass by Rosenthal, from their Studio Line. It was designed by Zsofia Kanyak, a talented Hungarian designer who died far too young in 1975. She started working for Rosenthal in 1967, and produced a number of excellent designs for them.

She did a series of cylindrical glass vessels of which this is a part. They're spun glass, formed by working molten glass as if you were making a clay pot on a wheel. The pieces have an all-over texture, as if they were hammered. The interesting circular detail on the sides was created by forcing a metal rod into the hot glass and letting it form around it.

The bowl is x" in diameter and x" tall.

Condition: moderate wear to the foot ring, a little light wear to the interior. One small (0.125" across) chip to the interior edge of one of the circular openings.

Mark: acid-stamped, Rosenthal Studio Linie / "Geschleudert Glas" / Zsofia Kanyak. "Geschleudert glas" is German for "Spun glass."
