Fostoria American Large Punch Bowl
This is my favorite piece in this pattern and one of my favorite pieces of glass. It's the largest of several punch bowls offered in the pattern, cataloged as holding 3 3/4 gallons by Fostoria. It is, without a doubt, one of the largest production pieces of pressed glass made by any company.
It is Seligson #147, produced from 1915 to 1980, according to him.
It's 17.5" in diameter and 8.5" tall.
Condition: wear to the foot ring, which is to be expected on a heavy piece like this. No wear to the interior, no nicks or chips to the tips of the cubes.
This is also a late production example: the mold was somewhat worn when it was made, and it was not fire-polished to the extent that earlier examples would have been. The result is that the mold seams are very obvious, and the edges of the cubes show some roughness. There are also some stress lines in the mold which transferred to the interior of the bowl. These minor manufacturing issues are hard to capture in photographs, but we feel they're important to mention.
