Dorothy Thorpe Allegro Bud Vase
Thorpe ran a decorating studio in Los Angeles in the 30s to the 60s. She didn't produce her own glass, but rather, like a number of companies at the time, bought her blanks from a glass company and decorated them for retail. The techniques she used were pretty much limited to sand carving (sand blasting), and silver and platinum. Her decorations were clean, crisp and modern, and at the moment, the most desirable pieces are those simple, modern shapes decorated with a broad band of patinated silver at the rim, a line called commonly called "Silver Band" but originally named Allegro by Thorpe.
A fine and unusual crystal bud vase decorated with pattern's signature silver band. The vase was likely manufactured by one of the West Virginia companies who specialized in hand-blown, paste-mold glass.
The vase is 8" tall, 2.125" in diameter at the mouth and 2.25" at the base.
Condition: as new, no wear or damage. The silver band is perfect and has never been polished, so it retains the original patina.
