An extremely fine Mid-century Modern coffee service by Rosenthal China. This is their Kurfüstendamm pattern on the Berlin blank, which consists of a broad burnished gold band on white porcelain blanks. The Berlin blank was designed in 1959 by xxxxx, and it's an extremely sophisticated Modern design of cylindrical form with flared tops. The creamer is the same size as the cups, and the sugar is quite small, marking the austerity of the immediate post-War in Germany.
The set consists of a coffee (demitasse) pot, creamer, sugar, and four ups and saucers which we would classify today as "after-dinner" in size.
The coffee is 8" tall and 7.75" from handle to spout. The creamer is 3.5" tall and 2.75" from handle to spout. The sugar is 3.5" in diameter and 2.75" tall. Cups are 2.75" tall and 2.5" in diameter. Saucers are 5.25" in diameter.
Condition: There may be some very light surface wear to the gold bands, but it's hard to tell, as the gold as a burnished, rather than shiny finish. No other wear or damage to any part of the set.
All pieces are marked with Rosenthal and Berlin marks. Some pieces are marked Kurfüstendamm in gold along with a decorator's number. Based on the size and quality of this set, I'd say that it dates to the early 1960s.
