A Wedgewood black basalt round, flat box, in the Egyptian pattern. The Egyptian collection was a small number of items introduced to satisfy the interest in all thing Egyptian created by the "Treasures of Tutankhamen" touring exhibition in the 1970's. Many of the items in this line were contemporary shapes in modern Jasperware, but the decorative elements were drawn from Wedgwood pieces from the Egyptian revival of the early 19th century.
The box is decorated with a relief of an Egyptian pharaoh in profile which has been gilded.
The box is 4" in diameter and 1.375" tall.
Condition: as new, no wear or damage.
Mark: impressed Wedgwood marks, dated 1978. The marks are light but they are present.
