A Wedgwood black Basalt vase in the mid-century modern style. This vase is from the Design 63 collection created to show the possibilities for Wedgwood's evolution into the future. Sadly, the public were more interested in tradition shapes and decorations and the Design 63 items were only produced in limited qualities for a few years during the 60's.
This modified gourd-form vase is decorated with engine-turned knurls and two bands of gold. The form and decoration are almost Brutalist in style.
The vase is 5.5" tall, 2.75" in diameter at the mouth and 2.5" at the foot.
Condition: light shelf wear to the foot ring, otherwise fine.
Mark: Impressed Wedgwood marks, dated 1969.
