A fine, small vase by the Niloak pottery of Benton, Arkansas. This example is from their Hywood line, a name which they used for their mate-glazed artware (their early production was marked by its unglazed exteriors). I believe the glaze treatment on this piece was called "Ozark Dawn", which consisted of a pink glaze with an overspray. The overspray on this piece seems to be green.
The vase is 4" tall, 2.875" in diameter at the top and 2.125" in diameter at the bottom. It is hand-thrown, rather than being molded like later Niloak ware.
Condition: no wear or damage.
Mark: partial Hywood by Niloak mark on the bottom. This mark dates this piece to between the summer of 1932 (the introduction of the Hywood line) and the summer of 1934.
