An original theatrical poster for "Sheba Baby" a 1975 AIP production starring Pam Grier. Grier plays the titular private detective, Sheba Shayne, in a classic blaxploitation plot: she has to return to her home town to stop a group of heavies who are trying to force her father out of business.
The poster image is of Grier at her classy best, in a fur and full-length gown, posed on her desk in what is obviously a hard-boiled detective's office. The tag line is "Queen of the private eyes" and a banner in the top left corner proclaims "Hotter 'n 'Coffy' meaner 'n Foxy Brown".
Condition: slight crumpling along the center vertical fold. Otherwise fine.
This poster (along with many others we are offering) came from the same source: the Erlen Theater here in Philadelphia. The theater was between 18th and 19th on Cheltenham Avenue, at the edge of the city. It opened in 1930 and closed as a theater in 1984. It was a single-screen movie palace (one of the last built in the city) seating 1700 and built in the modern style. At the end of its life -the period from which these posters date- it apparently was hanging on on a steady diet of action/adventure, horror and kung-fu movies.
