An original one-sheet theatrical poster for Columbia's 1963 adventure film, "Jason and the Argonauts". This essay in the swords and sandals genre is best-known for its special effects by Ray Harryhausen, the stop-motion animation genius. This red-bordered poster is from the 1978 re-release of the film, which was its second. It is NSS# R780085.
Condition: 1/4" tear in the top margin at the center fold. Otherwise fine.
This poster (along with many others we are offering) came from the same source: the Erlen Theater here in Philadelphia. The theater was between 18th and 19th on Cheltenham Avenue, at the edge of the city. It opened in 1930 and closed as a theater in 1984. It was a single-screen movie palace (one of the last built in the city) seating 1700 and built in the modern style. At the end of its life -the period from which these posters date- it apparently was hanging on on a steady diet of action/adventure, horror and kung-fu movies.
