An original poster for the third installment in the Shaft trilogy, Shaft in Africa, starring Richard Roundtree. The film, released in 1973, was directed by John Guillermin and written by Stirling Silliphant, who is probably best known for his work on disaster epics in the 1970's. The film was not a success and the studio attempted to recoup its investment by using this film to launch a Shaft TV show, also starring Roundtree.
Condition: 1/2" long tear in the left margin, some creases and a tiny hole in the center where the folds meet. Otherwise fine.
This poster (along with many others we are offering) came from the same source: the Erlen Theater here in Philadelphia. The theater was between 18th and 19th on Cheltenham Avenue, at the edge of the city. It opened in 1930 and closed as a theater in 1984. It was a single-screen movie palace (one of the last built in the city) seating 1700 and built in the modern style. At the end of its life -the period from which these posters date- it apparently was hanging on on a steady diet of action/adventure, horror and kung-fu movies.
