Super Fly Original One-Sheet Theatrical Poster
The poster is also an icon of the genre, featuring an illustration of Priest in his pink brocade suit in front of his pimpmobile which has a bikini-clad woman sprawled on it. In the background, two men fight in front of a cityscape.
This poster (along with many others we are offering) came from the same source: the Erlen Theater here in Philadelphia. The theater was between 18th and 19th on Cheltenham Avenue, at the edge of the city. It opened in 1930 and closed as a theater in 1984. It was a single-screen movie palace (one of the last built in the city) seating 1700 and built in the modern style. At the end of its life -the period from which these posters date- it apparently was hanging on on a steady diet of action/adventure, horror and kung-fu movies.
Condition: There a stain in the bottom left panel and a little light soiling to both bottom panels (these posters were stored folded so that the title on the bottom edge could be read).
Interestingly, it appears there are three variations of this poster, of which this is the second. The box in the lower left which reads "Starring Ron O'Neal as Priest" is an applied label (The first variation do not have this box applied; later posters have a larger version of the box printed on) as all three were issued for the print on its initial release, there's no difference in value at the moment.
