Oxford China (Lenox) Special Gold Wedding Band Small Serving Platter
At least five of them were simply labeled "Special," including this one. Lenox still uses the "Special" designation on certain items, like their Christmas Holly pattern, so it is possible that these decorations were special or limited runs. (I'm sorry that this all seems so sketchy, but Lenox is famously un-forthcoming when it comes to historical information about their product.)
This particular line (labeled "O1" by a major china replacement service) is white glazed china with a simple gold "wedding band" at the rims of the pieces. This minimalist decoration emphasizes the classic lines of the china. It would work equally well in a traditional or modern setting.
For sale here is the smallest of the three sizes of serving platter. It is 13.5" long by 10" wide. It is in excellent to near mint condition; no major damage, no chips. There are a few light surface scratches to the piece (0.25" long or less) and a couple of longer (0.75") scratches. No wear to the gold band. The major china replacement site is asking $220 for this platter. although they don't have it in this decoration.
Marked in gold on the bottom: "OXFORD / Bone China" followed by the Lenox "L" mark, then "SPECIAL / Made in the U.S.A."
We have a large partial set of this china that we have listed. Please search our site or email up if you are looking for particular pieces.
