I found this beautiful piece many years ago in rural Massachusetts....it was a lamp....and of course I could not leave it as such...and returned it to it origin, as a Vase. It's circa 1900's.... a wonderful and unusual piece painted by a world class decorator, who worked for Pickard Studios of Chicago in the 1920's.
The Vase displays two sets of Dancing Ladies....one a group of three...and one a group of two. The Scene is set along a lake....and has been totally decorated from end to end. The wonderful shades of blue of the water and sky are some of the best colors I have ever seen. The other pastel colors only enhance the overall beauty of the Vase. Rhodes has used 24K Gold to decorate the Vase and appeared to spare no expense, even gilding the inside of the top opening.
This one of a kind piece is in excellent overall condition, except for the drill holes at the base and the underside, and originally drilled prior to the decorating.
The Vase was decorated by the Pickard Artist, Arnold Rhodes. Rhodes had extensive experience in professional decorating and worked for many of the major Chicago decorating studios of the day including; Julius Brauer, Osborne, Stouffer, Tolpin, as well as Pickard...twice. See Reed's Pickard Collectors Book for his bio, as well as many examples of his work. Rhodes [see photo] has signed the Vase at the base.
The wonderful colors of the Vase give it great presence....and she has resided on my fireplace mantel for numerous years. The piece will make a wonderful addition to your collection and will be a show piece in any area of your home.
