Carl Koenig was 24 when he started decorating in 1905 for the most prestigious China Studio in America, Pickard Studio of Chicago. Koenig was well known for his fruits and floral rendering. After leaving Pickard in 1912, Koenig did stints at two of Chicago other elite studios; Julius Brauer Studio and the Edward Donath Studios. Koenig opened his own China Decorating Studio on the near north side of Chicago in 1915....and operated for 50+ years to at least 1966 and possibly until 1969. Though suffering through the two World Wars, the Great Depression, and two additional wars before his death, he was remarkable in continuing to find outlets for his outstanding works. No known listed China Decorator had more longevity than Carl Koenig. The Pickard Collectors Book by Alan Reed has extensive information on Koenig, as well as many examples of his fine works.
This is a fine early example, circa 1920's, of Carl Koenig diversified works, a beautiful and unusual Art Deco Style Lamp depicting a "Dancing Lady With A Scarf" with a fancy blue dress and pink scarf.
