Robert W. France was 36 years old when he opened his soon to be famous "France Studio" in Chicago in 1906...a China Decorating Studio that would rival in quality of work the biggest china decorating studios of the era including Pickard, Donath, Brauer, Osborne, and Stouffer. Unlike other artist of the day, Robert France did not sign his work, electing instead to mark or hand letter his hand painted creations as "France Studio" ...sometimes "France" and other times "France Studio Chicago". Robert France did employ some great artist during his studio days [1906-16] including former Pickard Artists George Stahl and Harry Griffiths, as well as Elsie Biegs, who later founded the Humboldt Studio and the exceptional artist, Charles Heyn.
This is a superb and pristine example of Robert France's work at its best..an outstanding rendition of quality and lifelike artwork, colors and presentation. Both sides of this large [15-3/4" tall & 18-3/4" tall with base] and impressive Vase have been decorated from top to bottom with large "Red, Pink, & Yellow Roses" on stem and leaf. The beautiful Vase has outstanding presence with its fancy flared gold decor metal base. The beautiful Roses Vase has resided in a old upscale north-shore estate in the northern suburbs of Chicago fronting Lake Michigan. The Vase has been a show piece for the last 100 years.
The Roses Vase is in near pristine condition and totally damage free of chips, cracks, or other damage with the gold being nearly pristine.
The Vase displays an early Crown "Austria" mark and has been signed by the studio...."France Studio"....aka..Robert W. France.
Exceptional in show and appearance the beautiful Roses Vase begs to be displayed in a prominent place on its fancy cut-out pedestal base.
