During the hand painted decorating rage of the early 1900's artists, from professionals to amateur, demanded fine and high grade porcelain blanks to display their talents and wares. The largest porcelain importers in the country, such as Burley & Co of Chicago and Pitkin & Brooks of Chicago went straight to Europe....namely France and Germany.....for the finest blank porcelain of the days. They imported and sold their European ware throughout the decorating world. The Rheinhold Schlegelmilch Co [RS Prussia] of Germany was a leader in exporting blanks to the States during this era.
This beautiful hand painted 3-Sectional Handle Tray, which measures 8" long, 6-3/4" wide, and 3-1/2" tall,, was decorated on a RS Germany blank [Rheinhold Schlegelmilch Co]around 1910. The fancy Tray is 3-Sectional with the center section displaying large life-like "Violets" on stem and leaf against a creme yellow, creme burnt orange, creme green, and creme lavender background. The other 2 sections of the Tray have been heavily gilded in near pristine gold giving the Tray a dramatic rich appearance. The Tray's fancy handle has been gilded in gold and accented in a dark lavender decor.
The 3-Sectional hand painted Tray is in excellent condition and totally damage free with the brilliant heavy gold being between excellent and pristine.
The 3-Sectional hand painted Tray displays an early "RS Germany" mark and has been Artist signed, "S.K."
The beautiful Tray has a wonderful presence and is perfect for a kitchen counter, small table, dresser, or vanity.
