Max Rost is well known by Pickard collectors for his fine early floral presentations for the Pickard Studio. Rost, who also used the pseudonym "LeRoy" decorated for the Pickard Studios from 1903-05. In 1905 he ventured out along with E.W. Donath to help start up and establish a new Chicago Decorating Studio and a major competitor of Pickard, the "E.W. Donath Studio" of Chicago. He spent the balance of his career at the Donath Studio creating many find floral creations. This is a fine example of Rost's work, a 7-5/8" "Deep Rich Poppy" Plate on a fancy scroll type mold. The presentation, artistic qualities, and colors are all here. The fancy heavy gilded gold mold just adds to its over all beauty.
The Plate is in excellent condition and totally damage free with only the slightest of wear.
The Plate is prominently signed at the 5:00 area "M. Rost" The Plate shows a double mark...an early "J.P.L France" Limoges mark and a very early Donath red mark.
