4 Jills In A Jeep Book by Carole Landis! With the outbreak of WWII movie stars played a very big part in entertaining our troops overseas. The beautiful and talented Carole Landis spent more time visiting our troops than any other Hollywood Star during WWII. In September of 1942, she along with Kay Francis, Mitzi Mayfair, and Martha Raye, began a five month U.S.O. Tour as a part of the "Feminine Theatrical Task force". They went to England, Bermuda, Africa, and Ireland as they travelled more than 50,000 miles by plane, truck, and jeep. During their tour they made 150 personal appearances and performed in 125 shows.
After returning home Carole Landis decided to write a book about her travels with her three friends during which they performed in front of thousands of servicemen and women. The book is titled "4 Jills In A Jeep" and was published in the spring of 1944 by the Curtis Publishing Company, copyrighted in 1944, by Random House, Incorporated, and illustrated by Lily Cushing. This book is a second printing. This book measures 5 5/8" wide X 8½" long X ¾" thick.
Throughout her book are stories of the numerous times they spent in front of servicemen and women--first hand stories of personal contact with those serving while they toured and all the difficulties they encountered while going from show to show. And even in the midst of it all, Miss Landis found time to fall in love and get married.
