I think we take for granted after our mom gave birth to us we automatically became an American citizen. Well, it's not as simple as that for people coming into our great country wanting to become American citizens. Today I'm offering for sale this wonderful book by Herbert M. Beck titled, Aliens' Text Book on Citizenship Laws of Naturalization of The United States, copyrighted in 1919, and published by David McKay Company, 604-608 South Washington Square, Philadelphia, Pa. Herbert M. Beck was the Chief of Naturalization, Camden County Courts, Camden, New Jersey. This book was dedicated to the memory of his father, Alexander Beck.
Mr. Beck, in preparing this book, he aimed to provide a simpler means in acquiring the knowledge necessary to pass the examinations for Naturalization and to assist those have been deprived of the advantages of our modern Public Schools. It was a an honor for those that left their country either by choice or because of oppression by brutal leaders they couldn't wait after years of studying to become American Citizens. This simple book, if taught to every student in every school in America, our young men and women could realize wait it means to be an American. Herbert M. Beck wrote "What is An American", every word below should be read by every Congressmen and Senators including our current President before offering citizenship to anyone that enters our country.
"What is An American?"
"An American is a man who is greater in his soul than his Class, Creed, Political Party, or in the section in which he lives. To be an American a man must have an American soul, and believe in the Spiritual Realities upon which American rests, and out of which it was born. America was created to unite mankind by those passions which lift, and not by the passions which separate and debase. We came to America, either ourselves or in the persons of our Ancestors, to better the Ideals of men, to make them see finer things, to get rid of the things that divide and to make sure of the things that unit. It was but a Historical accident no doubt that this Great Country was called "United States," yet I am very thankful that it has that word "United" in its title; and the man who seeks to divide men from men, group from group, interest from interest in this great Union is striking at its very heart."
