1940's People of the Pacific by Scotty (South Seas) Guletz
The book has 50 pages, measures 8 1/8" wide x 10½" long x ¼" thick, and 125 black and white photos with a short paragraph under most of the photos. Numerous photos show family time, playtime, and what type of work the islanders do daily. It was impossible for Scotty to write this book and not include photos of the topless native women. The photos show the women and their lifestyle.
These are the islands he wrote about: Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Guinea, New Caledonia, and Java. Also these are the countries: Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Shanghai, and Japan, before the bombing of Pearl Harbor.
**Condition: The front and back covers are in good condition, very clean. The inside pages are in very good condition, very clean and bright. The spine has minor wear and chipping at the top and bottom. The front cover has minor wear to all the outer edges, some surface wear, a 1/8" round deep blue dot next to the letter "P", scratching on the letter "P", and a crease mark at the top right corner. The back cover has minor wear along the top edge, a ½" long ink line near the top edge, and a 1/16" round medium blue dot near the top right corner. The first inside page has a name written neatly in ink right above "People", inside the front cover there are three small round circles of blue ink.
Even though this rare soft cover book by Scott (South Seas) Guletz was not written about WWII, most of the islands in the book play a large and deadly part in the roll the United States military played in defeating Japan and ending WWII. A nice book for anyone the collects items the pertain to WWII.
