Here are 2 unused boxes from the Victorian era...both are marked Patented June 30, 1874 (somewhat difficult to read) and one is also marked "Sold By Ketterlinus, Philadelphia." One box has a pink tint to the background, features a lovely Victorian lady in yellow dress surrounded by an embossed gilted cartouche or frame. The other side of the box has a gilted framed lady in a garden scene...this has a coating over top of the chromo which is breaking down. Each side of the box has gilted designs and one has a miniature fan depicted...so necessary in those days. The second box has a cream colored background with 2 other lovely ladies depicted. This box has gilting around the ladies but not on the sides of the box. Both boxes are about 9 1/2" x 5 1/4" in the unfolded condition. When assembled, they are about 5 1/2" x 3 1/4" x 2". Though the boxes are over 140 years old, they are in fairly nice condition and an unusual find.
